Soft targets. Civilians. Thats how they are known after any terrorists attacks or civil wars or any violent conflicts. But the bottom line is they were families with men, women, children, grandparents; struggling for a livelihood with their happy moments and sad times before they became victims of terror and violence.

All these families happen to be in the wrong place when it was the right time for bombs to explode. Some were out buying daily grocery, a little girl was probably buying gifts or small traders were conducting business. All of them totally non-political. With no affiliations to any terror groups or rebel groups. Normal people leading regular normal life. Did they deserve such a violent death?

What do perpetrators of such attacks achieve? They want to destablize the government? How? By killing a poor child and ripping apart innocent men and women with bombs?

They say some jihadi outfit has claimed responsibility. Do they worship god of death? some God who needs human sacrifices? Which faith gives orders or permission to leave live bombs in crowded locality?
I want to know...

Wanna fight imperialism? Kidnap and kill civilians -rebels in some part of the world say.

Wanna stay in power? Kill and abuse common man, use rape, molestation and all possible methods to terrorise and blackmail masses to support a particular political party.

Fight against terror? Declare war and condone unfortunate deaths of civilians.

Call of jihad? Plant yourself as a bomb or plant several bombs and kill many normal people conducting normal life.

Everywhere helpless, weaponless families are being killed ruthlessly. We all have become soft targets in this growingly insane human society. Society, which has mastered the art of killing while pretending to find better means of survival.

I don’t think any faith does. Islam has been corrupted to suit the ends of certain people. It is a fallacy to use religious claims to justify political violence. In the end, the death of innocents such as you describe, such as has happened - this violence and terror is an empty expression of an inevitably shallow and corrupt misinterpretation of a major world religion.

Again, violence is political - using a religion or religious affiliation to justify the violence is moral corruption and denigrates the religion of which they are allegedly faithful devotees.

In this Brave New World: Soft targets, aren’t we all ?

Graeme,
Unfortunately in India religion gets dragged into all bloody attacks. I am told, some hindus entered Taj Mahal and this was a retaliation. Religion is used as a political weapon in India. Now with terror links, religious conflicts have gruesome outcomes.I don’t know if at all there will be an end to such conflicts. The answer seems no.
There is no political consensus as well to look for some other ways to counter even violence forget terrorism.
I was dreading yesterday if there would be a counter attack on muslims by hindus something that happened during Gujarat riots. But fortunately it didn’t...
Innocent followers of islam will the most suffer in this game of terror. Global world will become more and more polarised...

Bomb blasts can be dime a dozen where I come from. Though they shock and instill fear, the more explosions there are, the more people get inured to the intention of blasting bombs in the first place.

Over here, so long as it ain’t C4 and above, there’s no cause for general panic.

Of course, these bomb blasts in India right now are a message that is conveniently wedged between the recent political events and the nuke deal.

Grace,
It is believed that one religious group entered Taj Mahal and claimed it to be built on some ancient temple. So this attack it seems was an attack of vengence for that act...
But I feel this has more to do with India’s growing proximity to US.
Unfortunately I cannot give clean chit to political parties as well.
Thanks to presence of bombs and weapons, even small conflicts end up as such brutal attack on humanity.

To attribute this spate of bombings to some claim over a supposed temple can be more than incredulous.

It’s as clear as day: it’s the nuke deal and what that implies in so far as ’increased’ relations with the US will bring to India.

Grace,
Religion itself has been a ’ticking’ bomb in India for many decades.
It’ll be terrible if terrorists groups start targetting Indian cities for having close links with US.
Matters will soon escalate into Hindu-muslim riots. Politicians should tread carefully.

Its more than the nuclear deal Grace. Well, nobody here is happy about the deal. Indian situation is too complicated. We not only have Islamic terrorists but also Naxalites who blow up people and gun down policemen, we have Maoists, separatists in the south, and in the north east, and various other militant organizations. If it were just one situation things would have looked a little simpler. Like in Manipur school girls and boys are kidnapped or enticed to join terrorist groups and they go blow up their own families.. They seek a different nation. Just an example...

Madhuri, apart from being soft targets, it is also convenient for the terrorists to target common people. Remember the Parliament attack? They didn’t succeed. They know the common populace can’t be protected and most of these terrorist organizations compete with each for recruits and for the success of their macabre missions. As you have rightly pointed out, terrorism always strikes the common man. Its not only terrorism:

Inflation: Common man suffers
Political Upheavals: Common man suffers
Riots: - ditto -
War: - ditto -
Disease Outbreaks, Natural Disasters........... Even nature seems to prefer the man on the street. Because they are SOFT TARGETS.

Jaiyant,

These terrorists are born in common man’s home. Shunned by even opportunities and positive upbringing, they are picked up by terrorists group.

Recently I was talking to someone who had just returned fro Kashmir. It seems militants there are getting disillusioned with militancy and are back driving tourists around!!

I hope someday people will get disillusioned with violence...
