The number of news channels are going up each day. Going by the political dramas that unfold everyday, news channels are becoming entertaining as well...

In the global context, Obama vs Hillary debate went on for months. International media cameras were shadowing both campaigners. Though Obama won the nominations, the media is still in a follow through as far as Hillary Clinton is concerned. Obama will be in headlines till he is elected to the White House.

Also once again thanks to international media we saw WTC come down in minutes, the declaration of War against Terrorism. The war ships and war planes heading towards Iraq and Afghanistan. Bombed regions. Ailing civilians. Execution of Saddam Hussain. Osama Bin Laden presence and absence. Afghan and Iraq conflicts continues and we now see Iran testing missiles and threatening. All dramas seem to be unfolding in our drawing rooms.

Next if we move over to Africa. Robert Mugabe,Zimbabwe,Sudan and Darfur; situation is evolving everyday. As they evolve we get the news bytes and shocking pictures of the region and what dictatorial regimes can do. And also how helpless rest of the world can be.

When the world leaders meet in global summits, we know what is on the menu of the summit and dinning table there.

Back home in India. The current political drama is the best reality show ever. The Left kept threatening for more than a month. Everytime one reached for the remote, the signing of n-deal and Left withdrawal were main unfolding news for 4-5 weeks. Just like serials the actual withdrawal came weeks later. While the government is struggling for support, the news cameras are following almost all political players of this game. The numbers are being added and subtracted. The grand finale will be on 22nd July and till then a big suspense is being built up. Wish we could send a sms vote!!!

News channels follow CBI’s investigations, celebrities, sportspersons, a child being pulled out of a deep well, and almost touch all spheres of life. If they could, they would have even fitted cameras entered the bedroom and then the labour room of Angelina Jolie...

If one looks closer these channels are competing with each other. Adding yet another entertainment quotient. It is a race of who gets there first...

Does media get us closer to the truth? Or is being used as a tool to confuse all of us? Is it all about newsbytes? Is media becoming too invasive? Is it all about TRPs of newschannels? Should there be some regulations? Do they know where to draw a line?

I don’t know if these questions make any sense...it is the best time for media and technology and the moving images...the remote afterall is in our hand... and the show goes on for all of us.
